The honorary patronage represents the support of the President of the Republic for the efforts of the festival, which for many years has made an important contribution to recognizing the knowledge, experience, and creativity of older people, while encouraging active, supportive, and dignified ageing in our society.
This year’s festival, which is being held under the theme “Lifelong Learning,” highlights the importance of education, new opportunities, and the active role of people over the age of 65 — topics that the festival consistently places at the forefront of its program. We are proud that the festival once again receives such important support this year, further confirming its role and significance in society.
The Festival of the Third Age is the largest event for older people in Europe. It was established in 1999 on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, on the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 25th anniversary, opening the doors of the cultural and congress centre Cankarjev domfree of charge to visitors for three days, from September 29 to October 1, 2026. From the very beginning, the festival has been dedicated to active ageing, improving the quality of life of older people, and strengthening solidarity between generations. For this reason, the entire programme takes place under the slogan: “We Are All One Generation.”

Na Mestni občini Ljubljana vsako leto z veseljem sodelujemo na Festivalu za tretje življenjsko obdobje. Ponosen sem, da skupaj vedno pripravimo izvrsten program za obiskovalce in da je naš predstavitveni prostor med najbolj priljubljenimi. Naše aktivnosti bomo tudi na podlagi odzivov in predlogov obiskovalcev festivala v prihodnje še nadgrajevali in dopolnjevali.
